The American Dream is an ideal that gives many hope about what can be achieved with hard work and determination. One man for whom this dream became a reality is Myron Fuller Steves Sr.
Born in 1912, Myron was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia where he later received a History degree from Emory University. Though he had his sights set on a career in the military, Myron faced severe disappointment when he was seriously injured in a car accident in 1940.
Instead of letting this setback overwhelm him, Myron pursued a new career path in insurance. He started off working for other companies, before establishing his eponymous company in 1955 with only $ 10 in his bank account and one employee. Today, Myron Steves is a thriving wholesale insurance broker with around 200 employees and a presence in four cities across Texas – Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Houston.
The man behind this success story passed away in 2015 at the ripe old age of 103. It is said that he remained active well into his later years, swimming and taking weekly Pilates classes until he was 102. Before he passed, he had some excellent words of advice for anyone with a dream.
